Coast (often called Coast FM 98.2) is a popular commercial radio station based in Auckland, New Zealand, that plays the music listeners grew up with and love to sing along to. It is a New Zealand radio network playing a mix of “feel good” hits predominantly from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, along with some newer songs. The station’s format is smooth, with short hourly news bulletins, succinct voice breaks, minimal ad breaks, and limited clutter. It also broadcasts hourly news, sports, and weather bulletins sourced from the NZ Herald newsroom. The station’s audience is almost equally male and female, with a 52% female skew. It changed names several times, including Goodtime Gold and Gold 1530; in 2002, the station was rebranded as “Coast,” becoming the first station under the Coast brand. The real personalities on Coast will tell their listeners what’s happening today in an easygoing, uncluttered environment.
