Fresh FM is a community radio station based in the city of Nelson, New Zealand, that is known for providing diverse, community-focused programming and giving local people the opportunity to create and broadcast their own radio shows. Its program mix includes discussions, drama, music, and documentaries that reflect the top of the South Island. Fresh FM was formed in the mid-1990s (around 1994) from the merger of two earlier stations: Boulder Radio (Nelson) and Harvest Radio (Motueka). It operates as a non-profit organization and is supported by funding from New Zealand On Air, which supports community broadcasting across the country. The station’s core mission is to provide a platform for voices that might not otherwise be heard on mainstream media. It plays many different styles of music, including local New Zealand artists, world music, jazz, folk, rock, and independent music. In addition to music, this radio station also broadcasts talk programs that focus on local news, environmental issues, arts, community events, and social topics.
