Radio Caroline is a United Kingdom (UK)-based legendary English pirate online radio station that was founded by Ronan O’Rahilly to challenge the BBC’s monopoly and bring pop and rock music to younger audiences. It plays album-oriented rock from the 1960s to the present. Despite legal battles and government crackdowns, Radio Caroline continued broadcasting intermittently through offshore and later online transmissions. Since August 2000, Radio Caroline has also broadcast 24 hours a day via the internet and by the occasional restricted service license. Today, it operates legally via internet streaming and digital platforms, preserving its rebellious spirit and historical legacy as a pioneer of independent radio in the United Kingdom.
